📘 Elementary Persian

Content: The Elementary Persian course is designed for learners with little or no prior knowledge of the Persian language. It introduces the Persian alphabet and sound system, builds a strong foundation in essential vocabulary and grammar, and develops the core skills necessary for learning a language. Through exercises, dialogues, and cultural materials, students will learn how to read simple texts, engage in basic conversations, and gain insight into Persian culture and everyday life. By the end of the course, participants will be able to introduce themselves, ask and answer simple questions, and understand common expressions used in daily communication.

📙 Intermediate Persian

Content: The Intermediate Persian course is intended for learners who have already acquired the basics of the Persian language and are ready to deepen their skills. Building on foundational grammar and vocabulary, the course focuses on expanding communicative ability through more complex sentence structures, idiomatic expressions, and thematic vocabulary. Students will strengthen their reading skills by engaging with short stories, dialogues, and authentic texts, while speaking and listening practice will emphasize fluency and comprehension in everyday and academic contexts. Cultural materials, including proverbs, poems, and contemporary media, will also be integrated to enhance understanding of Persian society and traditions. By the end of the course, participants will be able to converse with greater confidence, express opinions, and comprehend intermediate-level texts with improved accuracy.

📘 Persian for Everyday Conversation

Content: The Persian Conversation course is designed for learners who wish to focus on improving their speaking and listening skills in real-life contexts. Emphasizing fluency and accuracy, the course provides extensive practice through guided dialogues, role-playing, discussions, and interactive activities that simulate everyday situations as well as cultural and academic settings. Vocabulary and expressions will be taught in context, with special attention to colloquial Persian and natural speech patterns. Students will also be introduced to cultural nuances and communication styles to help them engage more effectively with native speakers. By the end of the course, participants will be able to carry on conversations with greater ease, express their ideas clearly, and understand spoken Persian in a variety of situations.

📙 Persian for Heritage Speakers

Content: The Persian for Heritage Speakers course is specially designed for learners who have been exposed to Persian at home or in their community but may not have received formal instruction in reading or grammar. The course builds on students’ existing listening and speaking skills while strengthening literacy, vocabulary, and cultural knowledge. Through authentic materials such as short stories, poems, songs, and contemporary media, participants will refine their ability to read and write in Persian, expand their understanding of formal and colloquial registers, and develop greater confidence in academic and professional contexts. Content: The Intermediate Persian through Persian Short Stories course introduces learners to the richness of modern and classical Persian literature while advancing their language proficiency. Content: The Advanced Persian through Persian Codicology Texts course is tailored for learners with strong proficiency in Persian who wish to deepen both their language skills and their understanding of manuscript culture. Students will read and analyze original Persian texts in their original forms. 📙 Advanced Persian through Mystical and Sufi Texts

Content: The Advanced Persian through Mystical and Sufi Texts course offers learners the opportunity to engage with some of the most profound works of Persian spiritual and literary heritage. Drawing on texts from classical Sufi poets and mystics such as Rumi, Attar, Hafez, and others, as well as key prose writings, the course emphasizes careful reading, translation, and interpretation of both poetry and prose. Students will develop advanced skills in understanding metaphor, symbolism, and allegory, while also strengthening their command of sophisticated grammatical and rhetorical structures. Alongside linguistic training, the course introduces major concepts of Persian Sufism and mystical thought, highlighting the intersection of language, spirituality, and culture. 📘 Advanced Persian through Sa'di's Golestan

Content: The Advanced Persian through Saʿdi’s Golestān course is dedicated to a close reading of one of the masterpieces of classical Persian literature. Students will engage with the text’s elegant prose and poetry, exploring its linguistic richness, rhetorical style, and moral-philosophical themes. Emphasis will be placed on expanding advanced vocabulary, mastering complex grammatical structures, and analyzing Saʿdi’s use of metaphor, allegory, and storytelling. Alongside language training, the course will introduce the historical, cultural, and intellectual context of 13th-century Persia, helping learners appreciate the enduring significance of the Golestān. Content: The Digital Humanities and Persianate Studies Bootcamp builds on the instructor’s earlier lecture “Persianate and offers a comprehensive, hands-on exploration of these themes in greater depth. Designed for students and researchers interested in applying digital methods to the study of Persianate history, literature, and culture, the course introduces key reference works, institutional resources, and online databases while also training participants in essential digital tools and research strategies. Through practical exercises and guided projects, learners will gain the skills needed to navigate, analyze, and curate Persianate sources in digital environments. By the end of the bootcamp, participants will not only be familiar with the core infrastructures of Persianate studies but will also be equipped to integrate digital humanities approaches into their own research.
