About the course

Persian for Everyday Conversation (Speaking & Listening Focus) is a practical, communication-oriented course designed to help learners confidently use Persian in real-life situations. Taught by MH Naraghi, the course moves step by step through everyday themes such as introductions, daily routines, shopping, food, travel, health, work, and expressing opinions, while steadily building speaking and listening skills. Each session combines essential conversational grammar and vocabulary with interactive activities such as role-plays, guided discussions, and short listening tasks, alongside cultural comparisons that highlight how Persian is actually used in social contexts. By the end of the course, participants will be able to engage in natural conversations, understand common spoken Persian, and navigate daily interactions with greater fluency and cultural awareness.

Session 1 – Introductions & Small Talk

  • Theme: Meeting people for the first time.

  • Language Focus: Greetings, self-introduction, asking simple questions (اسم شما چیست؟ اهل کجا هستید؟).

  • Activities: Role-play introductions, mingling game, and short listening dialogue.

  • Discussion: “How do introductions differ in Persian vs. your culture?”
     

 

Session 2 – Daily Life & Routines

  • Theme: Talking about everyday activities.

  • Language Focus: Present tense verbs (می‌روم، می‌خوانم), adverbs of time (همیشه، گاهی).

  • Activities: Pair interview: “What do you do every day?” Create daily routine charts.

  • Discussion: Compare weekday vs. weekend routines.
     

 

Session 3 – Shopping & Money

  • Theme: Buying food, clothing, small items.

  • Language Focus: Numbers, prices, bargaining expressions (چنده؟ گرونه! ارزونه!).

  • Activities: Role-play: shopkeeper & customer. Listening: short market conversation.

  • Discussion: “Is bargaining common in your country?”
     

 

Session 4 – Food & Restaurants

  • Theme: Ordering food, talking about preferences.

  • Language Focus: Polite requests (می‌شود …؟ لطفاً … بدهید), food vocabulary.

  • Activities: Role-play restaurant scenes, and write your “ideal menu.”

  • Discussion: “What’s your favorite Persian dish? What do people usually eat in your country?”
     

 

Session 5 – Transportation & Directions

  • Theme: Moving around the city.

  • Language Focus: Asking/giving directions, using transportation terms (راست، چپ، مستقیم).

  • Activities: Map role-plays (find the hospital, station, shop). Listening to street interactions.

  • Discussion: “How do you usually get around? Compare transport systems.”
     

 

Session 6 – At Home & with Friends

  • Theme: Hosting and visiting.

  • Language Focus: Invitations, accepting/refusing politely, guest/host phrases (بفرمایید، نوش جان).

  • Activities: Role-play: inviting a friend, being a guest at a Persian home.

  • Discussion: “What’s different about hospitality in your culture and in Persian culture?”
     

 

Session 7 – Health & Emergencies

  • Theme: Talking about health and problems.

  • Language Focus: Body parts, describing symptoms (سرم درد می‌کند، تب دارم).

  • Activities: Doctor–patient role-plays; practice emergency phone calls.

  • Discussion: “How do people describe illness in your country vs. in Persian culture?”
     

 

Session 8 – University & Work

  • Theme: Academic and professional life.

  • Language Focus: Talking about studies, jobs, daily work (درس می‌خوانم، کار می‌کنم).

  • Activities: Pair interviews: study/work background. Group discussion on job preferences.

  • Discussion: “What’s the biggest difference between work culture in Iran and your country?”
     

 

Session 9 – Free Time & Hobbies

  • Theme: Talking about interests, media, sports.

  • Language Focus: Talking about likes/dislikes (دوست دارم، علاقه دارم، خوشم نمی‌آید).

  • Activities: Mini-presentations on hobbies. Group discussion: music, films, sports.

  • Discussion: “What hobbies are popular in Iran? In your culture?”
     

 

Session 10 – Travel & Experiences

  • Theme: Tourism, past trips, future plans.

  • Language Focus: Past tense for narration (رفتم، دیدم) + future expressions.

  • Activities: Students share travel stories, plan a trip in pairs. Listening to travel dialogue.

  • Discussion: “What places in Iran would you like to visit and why?”
     

 

Session 11 – Opinions & Debates

  • Theme: Expressing views politely.

  • Language Focus: Opinion phrases (به نظر من، فکر می‌کنم، درست نیست).

  • Activities: Mini-debate: city vs. village life, traditional vs. modern.

  • Discussion: “How do Persians disagree politely? Compare with your culture.”
     

 

Session 12 – Review & Cultural Conversations

  • Theme: Integration of all skills.

  • Language Focus: Review of colloquial expressions, idioms, fillers (مثلاً، خب، راستش).

  • Activities: Student presentations (role-play or free conversation on a chosen theme).

  • Discussion: “What was the most useful phrase you learned in this course?”

  • Wrap-up: Feedback, cultural reflection, and strategies for continued learning.

Schedule: Tuesdays, 27 January 2026 – 7 April 2026


Time: 9:00–10:00 AM (US Pacific), 12:00–1:00 PM (US Eastern), 6:00–7:00 PM (Central European)
 

Format: 12 online sessions 
 

Tuition: $300 (payable in 3 installments)
