About the course:

The Advanced Persian through Mystical and Sufi Texts course offers learners the opportunity to engage with some of the most profound works of Persian spiritual and literary heritage. Drawing on texts from classical Sufi poets and mystics such as Rumi, Attar, Hafez, and others, as well as key prose writings, the course emphasizes careful reading, translation, and interpretation of both poetry and prose. Students will develop advanced skills in understanding metaphor, symbolism, and allegory, while also strengthening their command of sophisticated grammatical and rhetorical structures. Alongside linguistic training, the course introduces major concepts of Persian Sufism and mystical thought, highlighting the intersection of language, spirituality, and culture. By the end of the course, participants will be able to read and interpret challenging mystical texts with fluency and appreciation for their depth and beauty.
